Then Glamour magazine asked me to investigate the reasons more women were seeking cosmetic surgery in their 30's, instead of waiting for gravity to do further damage. Over the next few weeks, I interviewed about a dozen of the most highly regarded plastic surgeons in New York City. I am now 52, and those doctors, with their delicate and not-so-delicate aspersions on my appearance, left a faint but indelible imprint on my psyche.
